Modern Minimalist Patio

The clients came to us looking to replace an aging, sinking patio with a modern and functional outdoor space designed for dining and entertaining. In addition to creating a comfortable gathering area, it was important to preserve lawn space for their child to play while also addressing long-standing drainage issues on the property.

Landscape Architect and Designer Alexandra Hossfeld developed a design inspired by midcentury modern minimalism to complement the home’s architecture and the clients’ artistic interior style. Large-format, light-colored Techo-Bloc pavers paired with crushed granite create a clean, timeless foundation for the space.

A simple and elegant plant palette was used to enhance the design without overwhelming it. Ornamental grasses, evergreens, and variegated foliage provide subtle texture and year-round interest, with Ivory Halo dogwood adding a striking contrast against the greyed nickel and granite tones.

Drainage presented a significant challenge due to poor soil conditions and the property’s location at a low point within the Beverly Hills neighborhood. Drawing on over 40 years of experience, our team engineered a customized drainage solution that ensures the space functions as beautifully as it looks.
