Minimal & Magnificent
About The Project
Our Birmingham clients didn’t like their existing uneven flagstone patio. It wasn’t barefoot-friendly, collected weedy growth, and did little to enhance the view from within their home. Their goal was a comfortable entertaining/lounging/dining space with clean lines and a more modern aesthetic that looked as good from the inside as it felt outside!
One challenge for this project was the elevation. The designer overcame the challenges by incorporating a retaining wall around the patio. This decision helped keep the patio level with the house. And using larger slabs for the patio eliminated the client’s concerns about weeds. Patio slabs were used and surrounded with crushed granite for the lounging area. This installation created a more modern feel for the space while separating it from the dining area. Their backyard feels more like a resort than a Birmingham backyard.
The clients opted for a fire table as opposed to a built-in firepit. This choice gave them the flexibility to move around their outdoor furniture. They love the ambiance the fire table and outdoor lights create for summer nights. Overall, the clients were thrilled with their final modern outdoor space and look forward to hosting parties for years to come.
